Conklin Background

A leader in acrylic elastomeric roof coatings for over 40 years, Conklin innovation is unmatched in performance.  Decades of experience and forward-thinking keeps the entire roofing industry moving into better performance, protection, and energy savings.

Pushing the boundaries to excel in all areas, Harry Conklin began to develop lubrication products in 1927.  He continued for nearly 50 years when his two sons incorporated the business in 1969.  In 1976, The Conklin Research and Development department created a unique latex elastomeric technology they brought to market one year later.

This Rapid Roof product was the first liquid coating on the market, and just the beginning for Conklin. Always steps ahead, this cool roof innovation was a pioneer product for the commercial roofing industry, providing great energy savings for building owners across the nation.

In1978, Conklin introduced Kwik Kaulk flexible sealant to complement the successful Rapid Roof system.

A partnership developed with Trufast Fasteners that solidified Conklin’s commitment to the customer and to further innovation.

Metal Ready took it one step further when introduced in 1985.  This primer resists rust and acts as a strong protective barrier on all metal surfaces.  The roofing industry was changed by the power of these Conklin products.

Further Innovation

In 1986, Alumify (aluminum coating) brought life extending possibilities to aluminum roofing materials. And in 1991 Conklin introduced Benchmark, raising the bar again for elastomeric roof coatings.  As Conklin products were protecting hundreds of millions of square feet of roofing in 1992, Conklin was sold to Charles and Judy Herbster.  With their pursuit of innovation, under the new leadership Conklin continued to grow and excel.

Conklin joined forces with BASF spray foam and Atlas boardstock in 1992. They became strategic partners, offering insulation products along with Conklin’s increasingly popular roofing products.

Reformulated again in 1994, Rapid Roof continued to improve and provide superior value and innovation into the third generation.

As Conklin continued to add new products and building solutions, Wall Kote, exterior coating for vertical walls, was offered in 2002, while 2008 brought Metal Ready Universal, adding better adhesion and anti-corrosion properties. In 2009, Conklin introduced Equinox for cooler weather applications and further energy savings. And 2010 brought Puma XL to the market with a non-prorated extended warranty of 18 years.

The Last Decade

Conklin continues to set the standard for the roofing industry.  The last decade has set the tone for additional innovation and roofing technology – adding more well-tested products to their long list of roofing solutions.

In 2017, Conklin added a new product to the market that is UV stable. By adding silicone coating offering, Contractors now have the option to provide a product that won’t break down due to UV rays overtime. Silicone also has a number of advantages that acrylic boasts as well. Contractors have solutions for every coating need with Conklin coatings.

Continuing to push innovation further it was time for Conklin to expand beyond the coatings marketing. They have successfully dominated the industry with their trusted coating products, and now are the leaders in innovation for single-ply roofing as well. Flexion® XL PVC, a single-ply system, provides business owners with exceptional versatility while keeping performance at its peak.

Quickly following the Flexion® PVC system is a new single-ply offering – Outpost® TPO. This system provides exceptional energy efficiency and heat-reflectivity. Both systems offer formulas that keep facilities fully protected, even under rugged weather conditions.
